The Billionaire banker’s widow Lily Safra, who received his inheritance, passed away. She was 87.

According to a spokeswoman for the Edmond J. Safra Foundation who declined to give a cause of death, she passed away on Saturday in Geneva.

She dated Safra for a while, but they split up. Safra’s Sephardic Jewish family at the time did not support his relationship with Lily, who was of Ashkenazi Jewish origin.

She wed the less wealthy and also Sephardic Jew businessman Samuel Bendahan in 1972. After a two-week separation, she divorced him a year later.

She wed Edmond Safra in 1976. The well-known banker was a Brazilian citizen via naturalization and of Lebanese Jewish (Mizrahi) descent. The Republic National Bank of New York was established by him. Their residences in New York City, Monaco, Geneva, and the Villa Leopolda on the French Riviera were where the couple split their time.

Lily and Edmond Safra were granted Monegasque citizenship on December 2, 1999. In a fire that was discovered to be intentionally set, Edmond perished in Monaco. Due to his status and riches, his passing generated a lot of media attention.
