Tokyo Olympics: Kyle Chalmers Age Net worth, Parents, Girlfriend, Family, Wiki, Bio, Height

Kyle Chalmers is a competitive swimmer and professional swimmer from Australia who specializes in sprint freestyle events. Kyle has now won three medals, a silver, and two bronzes in the men’s 100 meters, 400 meters, and 4×200 meters races at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 summer Olympics.

It is not, however, Kyle’s first Olympic medal, since he became the first Australian to win gold in a 100m event in nearly five decades at the 2016 Rio Olympics when he was only 18 years old.

“Kyle Chalmers falls sorely short of his peak performance.”

Kyle Chalmers has been to the depths of hell. He enumerated the torture his body had been through since winning gold in the men’s 100m freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics while standing in the depths of the Tokyo Aquatics Centre on Thursday.

“I had shoulder surgery seven months ago,” he said. “I’ve had 12 cortisone injections in my left shoulder just to get to this point. I’ve had PRP [platelet-rich plasma therapy] twice I’ve had ankle problems, I’ve had three facet-joint epidurals in my back, i’ve had cortisone in my right shoulder, i’ve had three heart surgeries. And that’s just the physical side of things.”

Many swimmers would have hung up their wetsuits. Chalmers is not one of them. The South Australian was back in Tokyo five years after winning the blue riband 100m freestyle as a fresh-faced 18-year-old. Only a few swimmers in the sport’s long history had ever successfully defended a gold medal in the 100m freestyle. Chalmers had fought through the agony in the hopes of joining that select group of people.

“To be honest, it’s probably a little bittersweet,” the Australian said in a candid interview following the race.

“To receive silver after winning gold in Rio, and the five-year road it’s been – it’s been incredibly difficult – is incredible.

Chalmers’ silver medal joins two relay bronze medals previously won in Tokyo, with the prospect of more to come in the coming days (the Olympic swim meet concludes on Sunday). Chalmers was certain that his silver medal made the ordeal worthwhile.

He said, “Absolutely.” “Seeing my coach after the race, seeing how emotional he was, obviously he’s with me every step of the road —… I probably spend more time with him than anyone else on the planet, including my family. I’m very comfortable and joyful right now. It is unquestionably worthwhile.”

Chalmers is hopeful that this will not be his final Olympics after surviving hell and back. When asked about a rematch between the two freestyle champs — himself and Dressel – Chalmers hinted that he might return in 2024. This time he gets the big one; I got him in Rio,” he said. “Let’s hope it makes it to the third round in Paris,” says the author.

Chalmers got closer to committing to another three years of the grind, the anguish, and the misery – all for the hope of gold in Paris an hour later, when he stood in front of the press once more.

“I believe so,” he answered, still beaming from his silver medal. “I think there will be some time to reflect – maybe after the ISL [International Swimming League] this year,” she says. But I think there’s a good chance I’ll be back in three years.”
