The 42-year-old is up against Tom Tugendhat, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, the former chancellor, and Penny Mordaunt, the international trade minister.

Kemi Badenoch was born in Wimbledon, London, to Femi and Deyi Adegoke on January 2, 1980. Her mother was a physiology teacher, and her father was a general practitioner. Lola and Fola, her sister and brother, are her two siblings.

Badenoch grew up in both Lagos, Nigeria, and the United States, where her mother was a professor.

Shortly after her mother came there for medical care, Badenoch was born. She didn’t find out she could get a British passport until much later.

Despite Badenoch’s assertion that her family wasn’t poor, her upbringing differs dramatically from that of her peers, who are Eton graduates.

She moved to the UK to live with a family friend when she was 16 because her family was worried about the country’s deteriorating political and economic situation. Additionally, Femi, her father, passed away in the start of 2022 from a brain tumor.

In her first speech to the House of Commons after being born to two physicians, she stated she experienced difficulties as a result of Nigeria’s bad economic management.

Kemi Badenoch is one of eight candidates vying to be the Conservative Party’s leader and Britain’s next prime minister. She has begun her campaign for the position of Conservative leader and Prime Minister.

According to Bloomberg, Kemi Badenoch has put herself up as a candidate for Prime Minister, with a promising platform of “limited government” and “a focus on the basics.”

Her interests include engineering and technology, as well as social mobility and integration. Furthermore, she often advises women who want to pursue professions in technology.

According to reports, the Conservative Home Office conducted a survey, and the results revealed that former defense minister Penny Mordaunt was the most popular among members. In the survey, Kemi came in second place.

At the age of 25, Badenoch joined the Conservative Party in 2005.   She ran for office in the Dulwich and West Norwood seats in the 2010 general election, losing to Tessa Jowell of Labor.

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, appointed Badenoch as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families in July 2019.

Badenoch received the titles of Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Equalities) at the Department of International Trade in February 2020. Since March 2020, she has been a part of the Public Accounts Committee.
