Quincy Park Band’s Director, Keith Wiemelt, 48, dies in a car crash

Quincy Park Band Director Keith Wiemelt died from a car crash on Monday night. He was 48 years old.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers said that it happened just outside of Monroe City, Missouri on Route Z around 9:20 p.m. They said Wiemelt, 48, failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the road, and vaulted over a county road.

At just before 11:00 p.m., Wiemelt was pronounced dead at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri. Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Monroe City Ambulance, and Air Evac responded to the accident. the officer said that they are not sure whether he was wearing a safety device or not.

According to the Quincy Park District’s website, He became conductor of the Park Band in 2014. He graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1997. Throughout the years, Wiemelt has played a major role in the instruction of band at a number of local school districts, including Quincy Notre Dame High School, Nauvoo-Colusa School District, and Ralls County R-II School District.

Wiemelt was also involved with the Salvation Army Kroc Center, Heidelberg German Band, Quincy Community Theatre, and the Muddy River Opera Company.

He graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School in 1997 and became director of the Park Band in 2014. Wiemelt had previously worked as a teacher in Fine Arts Specialist at the Salvation Army Kroc Center, Director of Bands at Quincy Notre Dame High School, and at the Ralls County R-II School District in Center, Missouri.
