Longstanding Councilman, John J. Kennedy, has passed away

John J. Kennedy was a longstanding Pasadena City Councilman with strong links to the neighborhood.

Councilman John J. Kennedy passes away following an illness.

John J. Kennedy, a 2013 City Council candidate representing District 3, passed away on Thursday. The age and manner of death of Kennedy were not immediately known.

“While we are all deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our friend and colleague, John Kennedy, we should always remember and celebrate his many accomplishments and contributions to our city and beyond,” said Mayor Victor Gordo.

“John Kennedy loved Pasadena and the people of Pasadena. He worked hard every day to make Pasadena a better place for everyone. He dedicated himself to helping others, and we are all better off because of his efforts. His was a life well-lived.”

Flags have been flown at half-staff at all City facilities as a melancholy remembrance of Councilmember Kennedy at the request of Mayor Gordo and the City Council.

“We and our family of employees send our condolences and prayers to the entire Kennedy family and residents of District 3,” read a city hall statement.

Donations

In lieu of flowers, the family of Councilmember Kennedy has requested that donations be given to a scholarship fund housed at the Pasadena Community Foundation in their honor.
