He killed her at her Parramatta home after witnessing her kissing another guy, the prosecution said to the jury.

Then, in an effort to hide his actions, he texted her phone, writing, “Last night was so lovely, slept like a baby.” You can’t text and you have to be with your partner. All is well, he wrote. The court heard testimony from witnesses throughout the course of the more than two-month trial that Hachem drove to McDonald’s and went for a job interview while Ms. Baker’s body was in the trunk of his car.

Later, over the course of another three hours, pings from his phone were detected in Breadalbane, close to Goulburn, where police believed Ms. Baker’s corpse had been placed. Ms. Baker, a TAFE employee, has never had her body discovered. According to the Crown, she had an “intermittent intimate relationship” with Hachem during their fifteen years of friendship.

 The prosecutor said that he was the last person to see Ms. Baker alive, leading to the conclusion that she was dead and that he was to blame. Daniel McMahon, a defense attorney, concluded by saying suicide could not be ruled out. The day after her companion left her off at her Parramatta home early in the morning, Ms. Baker was reported missing by her family on January 5.
