Days after colliding with his motorcycle in Bali, a man who had a “zest for life” and an “insatiable thirst for love” passed away, according to his family.

James Criddle, a cyclist from Pembrokeshire, crashed his bike, sustained devastating brain damage and passed away following a seven-hour surgery to alleviate pressure on his head. James’s passing occurred early on July 21 before his grieving parents could make it to his bedside, according to his family.

In a Facebook post, they disclosed that James had 25 skull fractures and needed an urgent operation after his kidneys failed. They said: “He was taken down to surgery, but while they were working on him, he suffered a cardiac arrest and despite the efforts of the medical team to keep him alive, they were not able to do so.”

The Criddle family posted on a GoFundMe campaign that had been initially created to help with James’ medical expenses, stating that James had suffered a brain injury in a bike accident on Friday (July 15). The well-liked young man from Saundersfoot was initially placed in a coma but succumbed to his wounds.

James was remembered as a “funny, kind, kind and most of all amazing soul who had an astonishing love of life and lived it to the full,” and they now intend to carry on his charitable work by raising money for the most vulnerable members of society.

Family Statement

His family said: “We respectfully ask that his life should be celebrated with stories shared of the times you spent with him and helping to add to his legacy of experience and ‘paying it forward

“In the same vein, we have made the decision not to have a traditional ‘funeral’ – nothing about James was traditional or ordinary and we would like to honor his life in a manner that befits his zest for life and his Insatiable appetite for love. We will shortly be organizing and sharing details of a celebration of his life that all those that knew and loved him can attend.

“His body, which is the vessel that carried his beautiful soul, will physically stay in Bali, where he had some of his happiest times in the last couple of years and will be honored by his friends there also.”
