In early voting results, Walton was in the lead. Byron Brown received 1,089 early votes, while she received 1,464 votes. Le’Candice Durham received 70 votes in the first round.
India Walton is looking to grab Mayor Byron Brown’s Democratic ticket, which he is running for a fifth term. Late Tuesday night, Walton declared victory over Brown.
Brown indicated Tuesday evening that he was not quitting and that he would wait until all votes were counted, including 1,536 absentee ballots returned in the City of Buffalo out of a total of 3,034 requested.
Any leftover absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than June 22 and received no later than June 29.
“I hate to say I told you so,” Walton began her primary night statement.
