Her first breakthrough came in October 2013, when she became the first Indian woman to score a century in a one-day match. Mandhana signed a one-year contract with Brisbane Heat for the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) in September 2016, becoming one of the League’s first two Indians, along with Harmanpreet Kaur. Smriti signed with Kia Super League defending champions Western Storm in June 2018, becoming the league’s first Indian player.
Mandhana made her Test debut against England in August 2014 at Wormsley Park. Mandhana was a member of the Indian squad that advanced to the final of the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup, where they were defeated by England by nine runs. She was picked to India’s squad for the Women’s World Twenty20 event in the West Indies in October 2018.
She was selected captain of India’s Women T20I side for three matches against England in February 2019. When she captained India’s women’s squad against England in the inaugural T20I in Guwahati, she became the country’s youngest T20I captain.
She was named International Woman Cricketer of the Year at the CEAT International Cricket Awards 2019 in May 2019. Smriti Mandhana was picked to India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in January 2020. She was picked to India’s Test squad for a one-off match against England in May 2021.
