Former longtime Outagamie County Board chair and supervisor Helen Nagler died Oct. 5 at age 78. Nagler was a force in Fox Cities government for 26 years, serving on the Outagamie County Board and the Appleton Common Council.

The Former longtime Outagamie County Board chair and supervisor Helen Nagler died Oct. 5 at the ripe old age of 78.  Nagler was a force in Fox Cities government for nearly 26 years, serving at the Outagamie County Board and the Appleton Common Council.  “I think Outagamie County owes her a debt of gratitude for all the work she has done,” said Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, who worked with Nagler for five years.   

Nagler immediately became heavily involved in the local government upon moving to Appleton with her husband, Leonard, in the early 1970s by joining the League of Women Voters. She has also headed its statewide committee to run presidential debates in Milwaukee.

In nearly 30 years on the county board, Nagler was the chairperson of the health and human services and finance committees and served two terms as board chair.  Leonard Nagler reported that Helen’s goal on the county board was to address both issues in all parts of Outagamie County, which stretches as far north as rural as Black Creek and south to downtown Appleton.
