A Former ACT Legislative Assembly colleague Helen Cross has passed away recently at her home in Gungahlin.

Last week, Helen was laid to rest in a private ceremony in the Greek Orthodox part of the Gungahlin cemetery, where she was reunited with her beloved husband David Cross, who tragically passed away in May of last year.

 A box containing the love letters and Valentine cards David had sent to her throughout the course of their approximately 35-year relationship was placed on top of her coffin by a family member. Theirs was a story of pure love.

Helen was a larger-than-life figure who, it’s true, some people occasionally found challenging. She pursued numerous worthwhile projects, but she was utterly committed to supporting her neighborhood.

In the middle of the 1980s, she held the title of Miss Charity Queen NSW and was a frequent fund-raiser for charitable organizations. She may have irritated some individuals, but she always had the best interests of others at heart.

Cross is survived by her brother and his children.
