A late-night shooting at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis killed eight people, and the gunman killed himself, according to police. Gunfire erupted at the facility near the Indianapolis International Airport on Thursday night, injuring many other people, according to police spokesperson Genae Cook.

At least four people were taken to the hospital, one of whom had serious injuries. Cook said two more people were treated and released at the scene. Investigators were conducting interviews and collecting evidence as the gunman was not immediately identified. Cook said it was too soon to say if the gunman was a facility employee.

Just after 11 p.m., police were dispatched to reports of gunshots, and officers discovered an active shooting scene, according to Cook. Later, the gunman took his own life.

“It’s a heartbreaking situation. And, as you may be aware, the officers of the Indianapolis Metro Police Department replied “Cook remarked. “They came in, did their work, and then left. And several of them are attempting to confront this because this is a place that no one should ever be forced to use.”

Officers discovered eight deceased victims inside the house, as well as the suspected shooter, who is believed to have committed suicide, according to Cook.
