Frank Moorhouse was born in Nowra, New South Wales, Australia On December 21, 1938.  He was 83 years old at the time of his death. He was the youngest of three boys born to Purthanry Thanes Mary Moorhouse, OAM, and Frank Osborne Moorhouse, OAM, both of New Zealand. His mother was a direct ancestor of British convict John Boden Yeates, who was sent to Australia in 1837.

His father was an agricultural machinery creator who, along with his wife, founded a plant in Nowra to produce equipment for the dairy sector. Frank parents were both prominent members of the neighborhood. Owen and Arthur are his two brothers.
