Missing: Aged-44-years, Ernie Sigmon’s body found after 173 days, Family and Wife

Ernie Sigmon was the man who went missing on December 29, 2021, while fishing. His body was found today after six months of extensive search.

Sigmon was a native of Maryland. He was an experienced boater who enjoyed fishing and spent his days enjoying these two activities.

After a 173-day search, Ernie Sigmon was discovered dead in Dorchester County.

Police, fire, and rescue personnel rushed to Cook Point in Dorchester County, MD, for a water rescue on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 11:25 a.m.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources got a report from an off-duty Oxford firefighter on his private yacht, advising that he had discovered a deceased male victim in the sea near Cook Point, about 5 miles from the Oxford Station.

Prior to their arrival, fire and rescue personnel responding to the water rescue duty were put to work.

Sigmon was collected from the water by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police.

Sigmon’s family posted the following update.

“After 173 days of this unimaginable tragedy, God has brought Ernie home to us. Our hope, faith, and strength have never been so extensively tested. Each and every day, we feel such a tremendous loss deep in our hearts. Ernie is so much more than a father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, boss, mentor; he was the one who supported so many of us to be the best version of ourselves.”

Fire and Rescue Officials

Fire and rescue officials responded to the 40000 block of Waterview Drive in Mechanicsville on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at about 7:07 p.m. for a reported overdue boater.

The Department of Natural Resources has requested a water rescue mission for an overdue boat that was last heard from at 3:12 p.m. on December 29, 2021.

Ernie Sigmon, 44, is a white man with brown hair and hazel eyes who is dressed in a black knit hat, a black heated under armor jacket, trousers, and green boots.

He left around 1:00 p.m. in a gray and white 2020 Open Sportsman 25ft yacht from the 40300 block of Waterview Drive in the Plum Point area of Prince Frederick.

Calvert County was requested to commence a water rescue assignment around 7:35 p.m. after incident command reported Sigmon’s cell phone was pinging roughly one mile off of Dares Beach. Around 8:12 p.m., Calvert County firefighters discovered the missing vessel with no persons on board. On board, the ship, Sigmon’s cellphone was discovered.
