In the ensuing seasons at Reims and Rennes, he became a regular. Mendy committed to joining Chelsea of the Premier League in September 2020. He was the first African goalkeeper to play for the club’s senior team in his first season, and he kept sixteen Premier League clean sheets while making his way into the starting lineup right away.
Mendy also kept another clean sheet in the championship game to help Chelsea win their second championship, tying the record of nine for most clean sheets in a UEFA Champions League season.
