Toronto police say they’ve arrested and charged a person with attempted murder after a girl was pushed into the rails at a subway station on Sunday evening. At 9:03 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a tip about an incident at Yonge and Bloor Subway Station, mostly based on police. According to officials, the 39-year-old victim was fully alert and breathing when medical personnel arrived. She was rushed to a trauma facility in a life-threatening but safe situation.

The victim was eventually diagnosed with a cracked rib. The woman was first smacked by the train, but a TTC official later stated that she was able to slide beneath the platform’s lip, avoiding being hit by the train. The woman was detained at Finch Go Station at around 6:18 p.m. on Monday, only hours after police released a surveillance image of her in an attempt to identify her. She is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday in College Park, according to officials. According to authorities, there’s no reason to believe the suspect shoved the woman, and there’s no reason to believe the two women knew each other. TTC spokeswoman Stuart Green told CP24 on Monday evening that a TTC employee had observed the suspect and alerted the cops.
