Duane Heard, age 63, is thought to have killed Deputy Aldridge by shooting him. Deputy Aldridge was allegedly shot by Heard on Tuesday in the Oak Forest community; Aldridge later passed away in the hospital. The S.C.S.O. was called to the scene.

According to investigators, Heard left the area. He crashed his vehicle during the chase and fled into the trees.

Heard was wounded during the confrontation, detained, and sent to the hospital.
