Don Tedford, a lifelong employee of the Hanover government and a contender for mayor of South Bruce Peninsula, has passed away.

According to a Tedford campaign Facebook post, he passed away on Saturday, October 15.

Tedford oversaw Hanover’s development department, which was in charge of examining building and planning requests. He most recently served as Chief Building Official for South Bruce Peninsula on a part-time basis.

The Tedford campaign published a few words from Hanover’s previous CAO Mike Dunlop a couple of days before he passed. Dunlop, who worked with Tedford for 21 years, says “he is consistently doing what is right and not always easy.”

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula issued a statement: “Mr. Tedford was a dedicated and well-respected civil servant … Don’s knowledge and kind spirit will be missed by many.”

The town claims in a different notification that it is too late to change the ballots for the 2022 municipal election, and Tedford’s name is on the ballot.
