A 10-year-old child who died in a strange accident while climbing a tree is remembered for his lovely soul. Declan Halford was killed in an accident on his property in Northland’s Wheki Valley, west of Whangarei, on Saturday.

Police acknowledged they responded to sudden death at a property in the vicinity and that it is not being considered as suspicious, but declined to provide any details about what occurred. A representative for Hato Hone St John ambulance stated that an ambulance and quick response unit were dispatched to State Highway 14 at about 2 p.m.

A Givealittle page has since been created to assist with funeral and everyday expenses. “ACC will give some financial help to the family, but we would love to be able to relieve some further financial load on the family so they can simply focus on getting through this next season and enjoying time together,” a family friend wrote. As of this afternoon, the page has garnered $13,811 in donations.
