The friend called Jess, a 47-year-old off-duty cab driver who was known to the group, to arrange for Debanhi to be taken home. However, it is claimed that during the trip, a “heated disagreement” broke out between the kid and the driver.

After mysteriously turning off his ride-sharing app throughout the trip, cab driver Jess dumped Debanhi on the side of the road. He abandoned her stranded on the shoulder of “Death Road,” the roadway that leads to Nuevo Laredo, a border town in Tamaulipas. Due to the startlingly high number of people who have gone missing there, the barren 219km stretch has earned its menacing moniker. Around five in the morning on April 9, taxi driver Jess captured Debanhi’s last known physical appearance and sent it to her friends.
