Tuesday night, two distinct but connected shootings that left two men dead just over an hour apart are believed to have been carried out by the same shooter, according to Montreal police.

According to Marie-Claude Dandenault, a chief inspector with the Montreal police (SPVM), authorities are “99% positive” that the same suspect is to blame for the homicides that took place in the municipalities of Saint-Laurent and Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

Investigators are not ruling out the idea that the back-to-back acts of gunfire were random in nature because there is no obvious connection between the victims as of now, she added.

David Lemieux, a professional boxer, is the son of André Lemieux, who was one of the two men killed in the killings, according to CTV News. He was 64.

Lemieux wrote, “R.I.P. dad” in a Facebook post Wednesday morning.

The unfortunate death was “quite new,” according to Andréanne Lambert, a representative for the boxer’s management firm, Eye of the Tiger, and the family would not be making any public pronouncements.
