David West, the current mayor of Richmond Hill, said to CP24, “This is really sad and unexpected news.” It’s really sad. For a very long time, (Dave) had a significant impact on our community.

He simply had the impression of being extremely knowledgeable about the town he had lived in for a very long time. West, who served as a Richmond Hill councilor for almost ten years before being elected mayor earlier this year, said he knew Barrow for at least 15 years and that he made immeasurable contributions to the community.

He’s always done a terrific job of representing Richmond Hill. He pointed to Barrow’s initiatives to successfully direct development and Richmond Hill’s explosive expansion, saying “It’s been evident the great benefits he’s made on Richmond Hill. Since Dave has been participating, the community has really developed. The day is incredibly sad for Richmond Hill.

Dave was such a delightful, humble, and genuinely involved member of our community that so many people called him a friend. He commented, “I am shocked to read of the death of former Mayor Dave Barrow. “Dave was a community leader who had strong ties to the residents of Richmond Hill. I send my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. The demise of former mayor Dave Barrow has surprised me.
