Danushka Gunathilaka is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays as a top-order batter in all types of cricket. He also played for Sri Lanka national under-19 cricket team at the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Danushka Gunathilaka a cricket player for Sri Lanka, has been charged with r*pe after being apprehended late on Saturday night at his team’s hotel, according to Australian police. Gunathilaka, 31, has been charged with four charges of “s*xual intercourse without consent” against a 29-year-old woman in the city whom he met online, according to New South Wales Police Commander Jayne Doherty at a press conference on Sunday in Sydney.

According to the police, Gunathilaka repeatedly “assaulted [the victim] while performing s*x acts upon her,” Doherty added. She said that the player would appear in court in Sydney on Monday despite being denied bail. A few hours before the arrest, Sri Lanka had just lost to England in a T20 World Cup encounter. Gunathilaka made his international debut in 2015 after previously being injured and disqualified from the competition. Since then, the left-handed batter has represented his nation in eight test matches, 47 ODIs, and 46 T20I contests.


Danushka Gunathilaka was born on 17 March 1991 (age 31) in Panadura, Sri Lanka. He holds a Sri Lankan nationality and he belongs to the black ethnicity. His Zodiac sign is Pisces.

He was chosen by the Galle Gladiators in the first round of the Lanka Premier League draft in October 2020. With 476 runs scored in 10 matches, he finished the first season of the Lanka Premier League in 2020 as the competition’s best runscorer and single-handedly led the Galle Gladiators team to the championship game.

Veteran Pakistani all-rounder and Galle Gladiators captain Shahid Afridi also commended Gunathilaka for his performance in the competition, describing him as perhaps Sri Lanka’s next Kumar Sangakkara.

His peculiar runout following his collision with Suranga Lakmal in the 2020 LPL championship match versus the Jaffna Stallions garnered attention and support on social media. He was included in the LPL team for the 2020 My11Circle Lanka Premier League due to his outstanding accomplishments there.

Following the players’ draft for the 2021 Lanka Premier League, he was chosen to play for the Galle Gladiators in November 2021. He was signed by the Galle Gladiators in July 2022 for the third Lanka Premier League season.


On November 1st, 2015, he played his first Day International for Sri Lanka against the West Indies. After a streak of outstanding performances with the Sri Lankan A team during the tour of New Zealand that same year, where he scored two fifties in four innings, he was chosen for the home ODI series against the West Indies in 2015.

On July 26, 2017, he played his first Test for Sri Lanka against India. In the game, he only scored 18 runs and claimed Abhinav Mukund’s lone wicket.

Finally, Sri Lanka was defeated by a score of 304 runs. Gunathilaka was the first cricketer for Sri Lanka to be dismissed for obstructing the field in an ODI on March 10, 2021, during the team’s opening match against the West Indies.

However, after making a mistake during the game, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard afterward offered Gunathilaka an apology. He was Sri Lanka’s leading scorer in the ODI series, though, with totals of 55, 96, and 36. Despite his great opening performance, Sri Lanka lost the series 3-0.
