THE ATTACKS GET STARTED. Republican 1st Congressional District U.S. House candidate Matt Mowers is criticizing Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas for appearing with police defunding supporters in an early direct hit on his potential general election opponent.

Palana Hunt-Hawkins, a Rochester Community Councilor, tweeted in May that she was the lone council vote in favor of eliminating two new Rochester Police Department positions over five years “to aid the city with the ‘drug and mental health crisis.'”

She made the news in a repost of a Black Lives Matter Seacoast tweet inviting people to attend a meeting and encourage the city council “to use the current openings to hire mental health specialists and recover coaches instead…”

The initial BLM-Seacoast post that was retweeted by Hunt-Hawkins contained a graphic that said, “Invest in our towns – Defund Dover and Rochester PDs.”

The re-tweet was then deleted by Hunt-Hawkins, but we have a screenshot of it below. She then announced her campaign for mayor in July.
