One of Australia’s longest-running cold cases documented in the popular “Teacher’s Pet” podcast has ended with a conviction, Chris Dawson has been found guilty of murdering his wife 40 years ago so, he could be with his teenage lover. The ex-rugby star had been accused of killing his wife, Lynette Dawson in 1982 at their home in Northern Beaches, Sydney, Australia. Lynette’s body was never found and Dawson, 74, always said that he wasn’t involved in her disappearance.

Today, New South Wales Supreme Court, Ian Harrison found the retired sportsman guilty.

The investigators argued he had been desperate to continue an affair with then 16-year-old Joanne Curtis who he had met while working as a PE teacher at Cromer High School. So, this can be the main reason to murder his wife, Lynette Dawson.

On 5 December 2018 Dawson was arrested by detectives from Queensland Police for the murder of his wife Lynette Dawson. Chris was extradited to New South Wales on 6 December 2018 to face a case trial.

Dawson was granted bail on 17 December 2018 and his family paid the amount of $1.5 million bail to release him. Appearing in NSW Local Court in June 2019, he pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife.

On August 30th, 2022, Chris was found guilty of murdering his wife in 1982, after the judge-only trial in the Supreme Court.
