But that big engine has now died, and car enthusiasts around the country are mourning the passing of Anthony Robert “Chic” Henry, a raconteur, super-promoter, customized car aficionado, and honorary ACT ambassador.
Mr. Henry, 75, passed away on Thursday in Canberra, Australia, following a protracted fight with cancer.

Henry was born in Launceston, Tasmania, on December 15, 1946 (age 75), to returned serviceman father Robert Henry and mother Alma Horton.

Henry was a member of the Australian Street Machine Federation in the 1980s. Henry developed a specialized burnout track at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC, formerly known as Natex) in 1987, and in January 1988, he held the first Summernats there. Hundreds of people went out for the first Summernats Street parade down Northbourne Avenue on January 2nd, which featured automobiles and entertainment from rock and bush bands. According to Henry, the expense of promotion was roughly $500,000.
Henry was issued a warning in January 2009 after speeding 77 km/h in a specific 40 km zone outside the Summernats site. Henry avoided a fine by explaining to authorities that he had not noticed the new sign. After the 2009 event drew fewer participants than anticipated, Henry began talks with a potential buyer for the company. In July 2009, he confirmed the sale of the company to an unnamed bidder.
In the 2012 ACT election, Henry ran for the Australian Motorist Party in the Ginninderra riding in the northern suburbs. Before the election, Henry advised electors to vote for the Canberra Liberals as their second choice. Henry left the Australian Motorist Party and joined the ACT Liberal Party at the end of 2013.
