A renowned theatrical producer who won two Tony Awards, including one for introducing the feisty Australian character Dame Edna Everage to Broadway, and who was a bit of a flashy figure who was driven around town in a London taxicab, Chase Mishkin passed away on July 24 at her Manhattan home. 85 years old.

Julie Kahle, a sister, said that Ms. Mishkin had dementia and that the death had been confirmed. She also suffered from two strokes.

After her husband passed away, Ms. Mishkin performed her first play, “The Apple Doesn’t Fall…,” on Broadway in 1996. She had produced it in Los Angeles. She worked on 29 more musicals over the course of the following 20 years, rising to become one of the most important female producers on Broadway.

“Chase had a real commitment to be a Kermit Bloomgarden” — who produced “Death of a Salesman” and “The Music Man” in the 1940s and ‘50s — said Joe Brancato, a friend who is founding artistic director of the Penguin Rep Theater in Stony Point, N.Y., in Rockland County. “She had a real dedication to each show.”

Her successes with other producers included the musical “Memphis,” for which she shared the Tony Award for best musical in 2010, the 1998 debut of Martin McDonagh’s Irish drama “The Beauty Queen of Leenane,” the Tony-nominated play “Dirty Blonde,” by Claudia Shear, and the 2005 musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine as con artists.
