Bryce Nelson, a former Los Angeles Times reporter and a longtime lecturer at USC’s journalism school, where he served as a director in the 1980s, died Saturday of symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, his family said.

“He wasn’t moved by trends and wasn’t persuaded by what’s trendy today.” He described Nelson as an advocate of “old-fashioned ideals of accuracy, fairness, and transparency.” Nelson was known to students for giving generously of his time. Nelson worked as senior advisor for press information for the Christopher Commission, which investigated the Los Angeles Police Department after the beating of Rodney King.
