Authorities said that a standoff in St. Michael came to an end Wednesday night after the 39-year-old armed suspect Brandon Gardas was shot and injured.
Gardas is alive and has been transported to a hospital, according to a brief statement released at 9 p.m. by the City of St. Michael and Wright County Sheriff’s Office. Who shot Gardas is not mentioned in the release.
According to the statement, none of the law enforcement personnel were hurt. A press conference on Thursday is anticipated to provide more information.
The sheriff’s office claims that the incident started at 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday when deputies were dispatched to investigate a firearms complaint at a home at 599 Central Ave. W. A guy and a woman were reportedly fighting when the 911 caller made the call, and the male was said to be carrying a rifle.
Wright County Sheriff Sean Deringer stated at a press conference on Wednesday that Gardas continued to be hostile and uncooperative while firing multiple shots at cops.
The man, identified by authorities as 39-year-old Brandon Gardas of St. Michael, is said to have active warrants for his arrest. Gardas is a convicted felon, and the warrants are for his arrest on various charges, including domestic assault and possession of a firearm.
According to Deringer, a woman and her three children were able to safely flee the house.
