According to a source close to the Ducks’ front office, the original allegations against Murray that prompted the investigation all involved verbal abuse of team employees. Because the team isn’t sharing details of its internal inquiry, which is being undertaken by law firm Sheppard Mullin, the individual spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“I want to apologize to anyone adversely affected by my behavior,” Murray said. “I vow to make changes to my life, starting with enrolling in a treatment program. … As I step away from the Ducks, I will focus my attention on where it should be: improving my life for the betterment of my family and friends.”
Murray’s rehab program will be paid for the Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli, according to an AP source.
The Samuelis announced in a statement that Jeff Solomon, who joined the Ducks’ front office in May, will serve as temporary general manager while the team searches for a permanent replacement. Solomon, a former player agent and longstanding employee of the Los Angeles Kings, will be in charge until the conclusion of a “methodical, lengthy” search that may run until next summer’s off-season.
