Hadley said on the radio, “It’s a really sad day for the Fulton family and rugby league in general.” “I’ve announced some sad things on radio but this could be the saddest… I’m going to miss him, he was a great man… the most loyal friend I’ve ever had. He’ll be sadly missed.”

 Ray said that he had been sick with cancer for a long time and  he kept it to himself. He had some new medication that had bought him some time, but then he went downhill quickly last week. He was in excruciating pain for three days, was unconscious for three days, and died on May 23rd, 2021.

James Hooper of the Fox League paid tribute to the legendary player and coach, saying that without him, “there would be no Manly Sea Eagles.”

Fulton made his senior football debut in the Illawarra Rugby League with Western Suburbs in 1965 when he was 17 years old, and went on to represent Country Seconds. Fulton joined Sydney’s Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles by club secretary Ken Arthurson after being discovered by John Hobbs (Manly talent scout) and began his NSWRFL first-grade career in 1966 at the age of eighteen He became the youngest ever captain in Grand Final history when he led Manly to victory over Souths in the 1968 decider.

Between 1966 and 1976, Fulton made 219 appearances for Manly. He earned 520 points for his efforts (129 tries, 10 goals and 56 field goals).
