She had only been notified that day. Ms. Snell was forced to wait with 30 or so other patients in the waiting area for more than six hours until she was relocated to a short-term stay bed on a ward. Her family informed the ABC in that time there were no ultrasounds conducted and no medication administered, despite her daughter, Lauren, seeking an anti-coagulant.

Ms. Snell was due to get an ultrasound on her leg the next morning — her condition was not considered urgent and at 6:00 pm there were no radiologists on duty. She died of a heart attack at about 1:00 am after attempting to go to the bathroom on her own. Nurses had previously characterized her as “wobbly” on her feet.
