The news and reports that Barbara Ehrenreich had passed away on 1 September which was released by her son, Ben Ehrenreich, on Friday. He has said in the announcement with a comment redolent of his mother’s spirit: “She was never much for thoughts and prayers, but you can honor her memory by loving one another, and by fighting like hell.” 

Ehrenreich worked for over half a century as a writer committed to resisting injustice and giving a voice to those who were typically unheard of.

Barbara Ehrenreich was an American writer and political activist. During the 1980s and early 1990s, she was a central figure in the Democratic Socialists of America. She was an award-winning columnist and essayist and has been writing more than 20 books.

Ehrenreich is well known for her 2001 book Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America; a memoir of Ehrenreich’s three-month experiment surviving on a series of minimum wage jobs. She even won the Lannan Literary Award.

Ehrenreich once studied physics at Reed College, later changing to chemistry and graduating in 1963. Her senior thesis was entitled electrochemical oscillations of the silicon anode.
