A 36-year-old Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy died over the weekend while on duty in Dublin after suffering a medical issue.
Deputy Aubrey Phillips, who was assigned as a patrol officer contracted by the city of Dublin, conducted a traffic stop Saturday at around 1:46 a.m. and arrested the vehicle’s driver, according to the sheriff’s office. Phillips suffered a serious and acute medical issue while sitting in her police vehicle during the arrest. The nature of the medical emergency was not divulged.
According to the sheriff’s office, another officer spotted Phillips in distress and initiated first aid efforts. Phillips, who was in critical condition, was taken to Stanford Valley Care Hospital in Pleasanton. She was subsequently sent to Walnut Creek’s John Muir Medical Center for life-saving treatment, but she died there.
Deputy Phillips was an organ donor who requested that her organs be donated to others.
This tragic event has touched each member of this agency,” said Sheriff Gregory Ahern in a press statement. “Aubrey’s short life will live on even after his passing. Aubrey will continue to serve her community by giving the gift of life to others in need. She was truly a remarkable person and served this agency and Alameda County with dignity and honor.
Phillips, a five-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was assigned to the city of Dublin’s midnight shift patrol officer. Her father is a retired Alameda County Deputy Sheriff, and her spouse is a current Alameda County Deputy Sheriff. Phillips has three young children with her husband.
