Canadian Actor and Director, Andre Brassard, dies at 76

André Brassard, a stage director, actor, and filmmaker from Canada, is best known for mounting the bulk of Michel Tremblay’s plays. Between 1982 and 1989, he served as the National Arts Center’s French section’s director, and between 1992 and 2000, he served as the school’s director of the National Theatre.

Françoise Durocher, Waitress, and Once Upon a Time in the East were both directed by Brassard. For his outstanding contribution to Quebec theater, he received the Denise Pelletier medal as well as a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award.

From 1983 until 1989, Brassard served as creative director of the French Theatre at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. He then served as creative director of the National Theatre School of Canada’s French division from 1991 to 2000.
