The Met Police said in a statement that a knife used in the attack had been discovered at the scene.
Officers searched three residences in the London area on Saturday. According to the authorities, a post-mortem examination was also performed on Saturday.
Sir David is the second MP to be assassinated in recent years, following MP Jo Cox’s assassination in June 2016.

Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, said security measures were being put in place to safeguard MPs, but she vowed they would continue to serve the public unhindered.
“We will carry on, we live in an open society, a democracy,” she said during a visit to the scene of the attack, alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle.
“We cannot be cowed by any individual or any motivation… to stop us from functioning, to serve our elected democracy.”

Ms. Patel insisted that a compromise could be reached that would allow face-to-face discussions with people to continue.
