The Football Association
Crozier rose to prominence after his surprise selection as chief executive of The Football Association, the governing body of England’s national sport, football, at the age of 35 and with no prior commercial experience. Graham Kelly was succeeded by him. During his brief time, from 2000 to 2002, the FA moved its offices from Lancaster Gate to Soho Square, hired Sven-Göran Eriksson, the first-ever foreign manager of the England national team, and became a more commercial organization, maximizing its income.
He also lowered the average age of the FA’s personnel from 55 to 32, accelerated the renovation of Wembley Stadium, and decreased the FA’s governing body from a 91-member FA Board to a 12-member committee. His actions were not without criticism, with some accusing him of acting without consulting others and acting above his authority. Mark Palios took his position.
Crozier is said to have labeled some members of the England national team as part of the Golden Generation while at the FA.
