“Leonard’s acting career extended more than 60 years, and he was best recognized for his role as Dr. Legg in EastEnders. “He worked in television and movies, and during his long theatrical career, he worked at the National Theatre and, most recently, the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He considered himself fortunate to have worked with theatre greats such as Samuel Beckett, Orson Welles, and Jonathan Miller. “His love of art and singing predated his acting career and were equally significant to him.
“His family will miss him more than words can express. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have been able to stay with him as his health deteriorated towards the end, a privilege denied to so many during these trying times.” A representative for EastEnders added: “We are profoundly saddened to learn about Leonard’s death.
Leonard developed a genuinely famous character in Doctor Legg, who has been remembered since the first episode of EastEnders. Our hearts go out to Leonard’s family and friends.” June Brown, the actress, has now paid tribute to her co-star.

Leonard Fenton was 95 years old when he died. He was born on April 29, 1926, in the East End of London, England. The son of Ashkenazi Jewish parents with Eastern European ancestors (Riga in Latvia and Lithuania). He trained as a civil engineer before being recruited as an army engineer during WWII.

On July 25, 2018, it was announced that Fenton would return to EastEnders as Dr. Harold Legg in late 2018. This role continued until the character died on February 15, 2019, following a protracted fight with pancreatic cancer.
