Robbie Buck and Wendy Harmer to leave ABC Radio Sydney Breakfast show in December
Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck, Sydney’s most popular Talk Breakfast broadcasters, have announced that their successful show on ABC Radio Sydney will be their final year.
The Breakfast co-hosts announced this morning to their listeners that they had decided to “go out on a high,” with their final program slated for Friday, December 10, 2021.
The couple stated that they made the decision solely on their own and that the moment ‘felt perfect’ for a change.
Wendy Harmer said, “I was ecstatic to be invited to join the station in 2015, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Morning and Breakfast shifts for the past six years.”
“I hadn’t worked with Robbie before, but the decision to team us up on Brekkie proved to be brilliant. We’ve been getting to know each other at the same time as the audience for the past four years, and it’s turned into a fantastic on-air relationship as well as a lovely friendship. There will be a lot of jokes, excellent music, and hopefully, we will keep our Sydney audience updated.
“I’m awestruck by Robbie’s radio prowess – he’s a consummate broadcaster. He’s been a fantastic co-host. Robbie, thank you so much for everything.
“And what a fantastic group of producers I’ve had the pleasure of working with on a daily basis! Their assistance, knowledge, and commitment have been fantastic. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“I’ll also miss our devoted, intelligent, and loyal listeners from here and around the world. Thank you for tuning in, everyone!
“Hopefully, it won’t be forever, and Robbie and I will reunite on a future project.”
“I’ve been with the ABC for 25 years, and in the Breakfast chair for the past eight years, and the time just feels right for me to take a break,” Robbie Buck said. I’ve loved every minute of this job, and working alongside Wendy for the past three years has been a dream come true.
“ We’ve been through a lot as a couple. We’ve always liked each other’s company, and I believe that’s what’s made our relationship so successful. I’ve decided to take a year off from the microphone to travel across the world. It’s not the end of the ABC. In 2023, you’ll see me again in some capacity.”
“We knew this day would come, but I appreciate their decision to call it when it is right for both of them,” Melanie Withnall, ABC Radio Sydney Manager, said.
“Clearly, their decision is a major setback for the station. Wendy and Robbie are currently in a strong second place in the Sydney market, with record audience numbers. They’ll be a tough act to follow, but we’re already on our way to figuring out who will take their place next year. In the next two weeks, the line-up for 2022 will be revealed.
“In the meantime, Robbie and Wendy have been on the air for more than two months. We intend to send them to go in style in the weeks coming up to their final broadcast on December 10th.”
