She was the only living child of her father as she had two brothers who died in the cradle.
At the age of seven, Rhaenyra rode a baby dragon she named Syrax into the skies, transforming herself into a dragon rider. When she was eight years old, a year later, Rhaenyra started serving her father as a cupbearer at meals, competitions, and in court. Rhaenyra fell in love with Prince Daemon Targaryen, her uncle, at an early age. All of the Seven Kingdoms’ lords swore homage to Rhaenyra once her father declared her to be his successor, promising to respect and support her right to succeed.
