Shortly before the match against the Windies on Tuesday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) issued a rule requiring all players to take a knee.
“By not playing against the West Indies, I did not mean to disrespect anyone, notably the West Indian squad itself,” De Kock stated.
“Some people may not realize that we were only hit with this on Tuesday morning while driving to a game.

“I sincerely apologize for any hurt, confusion, or anger that I have caused.”
He said, ” “As a cricketer, I’ve been called a lot of things. But it didn’t matter and it bothers me a lot to be labeled a racist because of a misunderstanding.
“It hurts my family. It hurts my pregnant wife.
“I am not a racist. In my heart of hearts, I know that. And I think those who know me know that.”
De Kock has previously declined to take a knee and, while he said he had been “quiet on this very important issue until now”, he felt the need to “explain me a little bit”.

The CSA spoke with the team and management of its men’s team on Wednesday at what De Kock called an “emotional” meeting.
“Following the meeting, the Proteas men’s team agreed to align and unify in taking the knee for the remaining fixtures of the World Cup campaign,” said the CSA, which also acknowledged De Kock’s statement.
“Cricket South Africa welcomes all of these developments. They confirm Cricket South Africa’s commitment to non-racism. Taking a united stance against racism is a moral issue, not a political issue.
