Quade Cooper says he “simply had the legs” to score the game-winning penalty against the Springboks, in a performance that Wallabies coach Dave Rennie believes might lead to the 33-year-old Quade Cooper being named the team’s starting ten for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Cooper is now in a position to keep Lolesio on the bench while also delaying the return of James O’Connor (groin), who, at 31 years old, could become the team’s junior playmaker, according to AAP.
Cooper, who hadn’t played a professional game in five months, was chosen because “we didn’t think it was a danger,” Rennie added.
“It was difficult to leave him out based on his training form.
“If he was in the Springboks, he’d be a young man (at the 2023 World Cup).

Take advantage of it for what it’s worth. It was one of the most memorable test matches I’ve ever witnessed.”
Cooper resisted the impulse to throw long cut-out passes in his 71st test, instead serving his outside men with sharp, clean ball or kicking for territory, according to the Associated Press.
His throw to Samu Kerevi set up Andrew Kellaway for Australia’s lone try, while the Springboks scored three rolling maul tries, fresh off a 2-1 series triumph over the British & Irish Lions and two straight wins over Argentina.

Cooper signed a one-year contract with the Melbourne Rebels on October 23, after being approached by Rebels coach Dave Wessels. After a strong start to the season, the Rebels struggled in the second half and ended 11th overall, missing out on a wild card position in the playoffs.
