Carrington won gold in the women’s K–1 200 meters event at the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, becoming the first New Zealand woman to win a canoeing World Championship title. New Zealand qualified for the Olympics as a consequence of the outcome.
She received the Mori Senior Sports Woman of the Year Award as well. Carrington won gold medals in the K1 500 meter and K1 200 meter events at the 2019 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged.
Carrington won gold medals in the K-1 200 meters and the K-2 200 meters alongside Erin Taylor at the 2012 Oceania Championships.
In November 2012, Carrington was named New Zealand’s senior Mori sportswoman and overall Mori sportsperson of the year.
