By defending the rainbow jersey in the cycling heartland of Flanders, reigning World Champion Julian Alaphilippe has established himself as one of the all-time greats.
The atmosphere was electrifying as the race took place on the most difficult and exhilarating World Championship circuit in years, in front of hundreds of thousands of screaming fans.
With Belgian, Dutch, British, Italian, and Australian “super teams” and race favorites, Alaphilippe’s victory was a huge surprise.
He is the first Frenchman to win back-to-back World Championships, and he will undoubtedly do everything in his power to defend his rainbow jersey and win a third in Wollongong in 2022.
