Jamie Raskin is an American lawyer, teacher, and politician. He has been representing Maryland’s 8th congressional district in the United States since 2017. He belongs to the Democratic Party and previously served in the Maryland State Senate from 2007 to 2016.
His district used to include parts of Montgomery County, which is near Washington, D.C., and extended to the Pennsylvania border through Frederick County. After changes in the district boundaries in 2022, Raskin’s district now covers only a portion of Montgomery County.
Raskin helps lead a group in Congress called the Congressional Freethought Caucus. He played a prominent role as the main person in charge of presenting the case for the second impeachment of President Donald Trump following the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Before becoming a member of Congress, Raskin taught constitutional law at the American University Washington College of Law.
