Laurence Bailey was born in the 1970s. In the early 1990s, Laurence met her future husband Ben Bailey at Hennessey’s pub in Morristown, New Jersey.

After several years of dating, Ben and Laurence decided to tie the knot in 1996 when Ben was 27 years old. As a young newlywed, Ben worked odd jobs, driving a limousine for five years and performing stand-up comedy at night to support his new wife and future family.

One day, while out house hunting with Laurence, Ben had an epiphany. Cruising around in his grandfather’s old Cadillac, he realized he wanted to settle down with Laurence and start a family.

Laurence and Ben’s family grew in the late 1990s with the birth of their daughter Emma. However, after over 15 years of marriage, Laurence and Ben divorced in 2012 due to irreconcilable differences.

As part of the divorce settlement, Laurence gained full custody of their daughter while Ben agreed to pay child support.

Ben Bailey was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky in the late 1960s to unknown parents. He spent the majority of his childhood in Chatham Borough, New Jersey after his family relocated there.

Bailey attended Chatham Borough High School, graduating in 1988 as part of the school’s final 76th graduating class before its closure.

After finishing high school, Ben Bailey attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. However, he dropped out after a few years to pursue an entertainment career.

In 1993, a tall and lanky Ben at 6 foot 6 inches tall decided to take a chance and move to Los Angeles. Down on his luck, he was networking and searching for work outside The Comedy Store when a stranger offered him a cigarette.

Ben had a job as a bouncer on the spot, taking note of his towering height. The opportunity marked Ben’s entry into the world of comedy and his big break.

Ben spent years paying his dues doing stand-up comedy while working odd entertainment jobs. His persistence paid off when he was offered the role of hosting Cash Cab in 2005, a discovery game show set in a New York taxi.

The show’s concept of contestants answering trivia questions for cash prizes was a surprise hit. From 2005 to 2021 across multiple seasons, Ben Bailey’s hosting duties on Cash Cab won widespread praise and acclaim.

Ben won two back-to-back Emmys for Cash Cab in 2011 and 2013, cementing his celebrity status as a mainstay game show host on American television. He also gained notoriety for being a licensed taxi driver in New York City all while hosting the show.
