Before retiring in 2012 and joining Popovich’s staff in San Antonio, the Portland, Oregon native played 316 games for the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, and Spurs, averaging 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

He was a member of the Spurs for seven seasons, including the 2013-14 season when they won the NBA championship.

The ESPN report cited positive comments from Celtics players about Udoka’s performance at the World Cup.
