PAUL STANLEY Says He Is ‘Numb’ After His Longtime Guitar Tech Dies Of COVID-19
Francis Stueber, Paul Stanley’s veteran guitar tech, died of COVID-19. He was only 52 years old when he died.
In a social media message earlier today, the KISS guitarist/vocalist revealed the news of his friend’s death (Sunday, October 17). He expressed himself as follows: “Fran Stueber, my great friend, buddy, and guitar tech for the past 20 years, died abruptly of Covid yesterday. I had a lot of reliance on him both on and offstage. My family and I both adored him. He was as enamored with his wife and three sons as they were with him. I’m deafening.
Since 2002, Stueber has been a part of all KISS and Stanley solo tours and one-off shows. He also joined the band onstage during the “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” episode where KISS performed for the troops, and he was present when Stanley recorded his solo album “Live To Win” in 2006.
In a 2007 interview with Gibson, Stueber, who has previously worked behind the scenes with HEART, THE OFFSPRING, and REO SPEEDWAGON’s Kevin Cronin, said, “If Paul falls out of tune, it’s not his fault, it’s my problem.” I usually replace his guitar every four to five songs so he doesn’t get out of tune. With KISS, it’s quite basic; Paul just uses one tune and only plays six guitars. The only reason I switch guitars is for aesthetic reasons.”
Thanks to the immunization
KISS announced rescheduled North American tour dates last month after Stanley and bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the band to postpone five gigs. Simmons later credited his immunization with maintaining his infection to a “minimal” level and advised others to obtain the COVID-19 shot. Gene tweeted, “Thanks to the immunization, I’m really fine.”
He also responded to someone who appeared to insult him for contracting COVID despite being immunized. “Vaccines protect you 95% of the time. “However, the Delta Covid variety is still available,” Simmons added. “I did… However, if you’ve been vaccinated twice, the side effects are negligible. Without the vaccine, you’ll end up in the hospital, in pain, and even die. Do your homework. You’ll come across as a lot more positive.”

KISS recently stated on social media that the entire band, as well as the crew members traveling with them on the tour, are completely vaccinated. KISS members “and their staff have operated in a bubble independently to secure everyone as much as possible at each show and in between gigs,” according to a statement released by the band.
“The tour also has a full-time COVID safety protocol officer on staff who ensures that everyone follows all CDC requirements,” the statement continued.
