Charlotte Knapp husband, Greg Knapp, an assistant coach for the New York Jets, died Thursday dated July 23, 2021 after being hit by a car while bicycling near his home in Northern California on Saturday.
On Saturday in San Ramon, Knapp, 58, was riding his bike when a car drove into the bike lane and struck him from behind.
According to NBC News and NBC affiliate KUSA, he was brought to San Ramon Regional Medical Center and later moved to John Muir Medical Center in critical condition.
The Jets announced the tragedy in a statement in which head coach Robert Saleh stated Knapp “had such an inner peace about him that people always seemed to draw toward.”

“My husband is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met,” Charlotte says. “I believe his biggest achievement has been his devotion to being an outstanding husband and father, aside from being an incredible coach and friend who has touched the lives of so many.”
According to Knapp’s agent, Jeff Sperbeck (via KUSA), the longtime NFL coach was surrounded by his wife, three daughters, mother, and brother when he died. Knapp was knocked unconscious and never recovered consciousness after the crash on Saturday, according to Sperbeck.

According to a police spokesperson in San Ramon, Calif., where the event occurred, the collision occurred soon before 3 p.m., when Knapp’s bicycle and the car were both moving in the same direction. The motorist, a 22-year-old man, stayed at the site and cooperated with police.
“Drugs and or alcohol do not appear to be a significant role to the crash at this time in the investigation,” the official stated.
