Brian Carlos Castano (born September 12, 1989) is a professional boxer from Argentina. Since February 2021, he has held the WBO light-middleweight title. He previously held the WBA interim light middleweight title from 2016 to 2018, and the WBA (Regular) light middleweight title from 2018 to 2019.
According to The Ring magazine, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and BoxRec, he is the world’s fifth-best active light middleweight as of November 2020.

In a contentious split draw Saturday night at AT&T Center, Brian Castano appeared to clearly fall Jermell Charlo to earn the uncontested 154-pound gold in an upset, but two judges disagreed, resulting in a controversial split draw.
One judge gave it to Castano with a score of 114-114, while another gave it to him with a score of 114-113; a third judge gave it to Charlo with a score of 117-111.
Throughout the 12-round battle, Charlo, a Houston native, was booed loudly, but it was Castano who was celebrated at the end.
“I absolutely won the fight,” Castano claimed through a translator. Then he stated his demands in clear English: “I’m hoping for a rematch. He’s a formidable opponent. I’d like a rematch.”
The three-belt champion won all three scorecards in the final three rounds to win the match and retain his title as unified champion. Castano holds the 154-pound title as well.

Although trainer Derrick James’ instructions down the stretch, telling Charlo he needed a knockout to win, appeared to be on point, Charlo’s tendency of becoming overly patient while attempting to end the fight with a single shot had followed him for years. In his controversial decision defeat to Tony Harrison in 2018, his low output was a prominent theme, and Charlo appeared to be behind on the scorecards late in their rematch a year later before scoring a late finish.

Charlo’s biggest problem was how often he forgot to use his jab. However, once he realized the danger of not finishing strong heading into the final rounds, Charlo’s answer was spot on, as he landed the heavier shots late while supporting Castano.
“Against practically every opponent he has fought, he threw a lot of blows, but with my abilities and power, I kept him off of me,” Charlo said. “He was on his guard at all times. I was moving about a little, but not nearly enough. But I’m not making any excuses. I’m honored to have competed for an indisputable championship.”

Although Castano showed Charlo his respect after the fight, it was clear that he felt robbed and was publicly seeking a second chance.
“I’m hoping for a rematch,” Castano stated. “He’s also a fantastic fighter.” “I’d like a rematch.”
